Who Is Dr. C
Dr. Raul Calderon Jr. ("Dr. C") is a sport psychology consultant, researcher, and educator, and the founder of Flow Sports Consulting. He holds postdoctoral fellowships from Stanford University School of Medicine (Epidemiology) and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine (Health Behaviors), and has taught, researched, and coached across the United States, Mexico, and Asia — including as university faculty in sport science at Kasetsart University, Thailand, and Health and Physical Education at Suwon University, South Korea.
Dr. C's career and research footprint — six continents, 70+ countries.
He is the creator of the Fitness 3.0 Flow Systems Model, a seven-dimension framework for student-athlete performance and well-being, and the Principal Investigator of the Asian University Students Well-Being Project (Vietnam, Thailand, India), a multinational research initiative he has led since 2016.
He works with student-athletes (ages 12–25), their families, coaches, and sports organizations who want a science-based, whole-person approach to performance — not quick fixes.

The Fitness 3.0 Story
The Fitness 3.0 model was introduced at the IOHSK conference in Manila in 2024, and has continued to evolve and be refined across a sustained series of international presentations since — from early field work in the Philippines in 2024 and 2025, to a 2026 conference series delivered in Thailand (ASPASP, Bangkok), South Korea (IOHSK, Seoul), and the Philippines (Kinetika, Baybay City).
The 2024 Fitness 3.0 World Tour, tracing the model's launch year.
The model draws on Self-Determination Theory, Flow Theory, the Ryff Scales of eudaimonic well-being, Ecological Systems Theory, and Long-Term Athlete Development research. Its initial empirical grounding comes from peer-reviewed cross-cultural validation of the Ryff Scales across Thai and Vietnamese university populations, with a completed three-country dataset (Vietnam, Thailand, India) now in preparation for comparative publication.

My Mission
I believe performance is built from the inside out. My mission is to help student-athletes develop the habits, emotional resilience, and sense of purpose that let them perform consistently and grow as whole people — not just as competitors. By integrating sport science, psychology, and personalized coaching, I help young athletes reach flow more often and carry what they build in sport into the rest of their lives.
Fitness 3.0:
A New Model for Human Performance
A holistic, science-based framework designed to help student-athletes build stronger bodies, sharper minds, better habits, and lasting well-being across seven dimensions of performance and well-being.

Fitness 3.0 integrates sport science, psychology, behavior change, and human development into seven interacting dimensions, with flow as the central, integrative state. The aim isn't to chase performance in isolation — it's to align the conditions that increase the likelihood and sustainability of flow, so athletes perform more consistently and grow as whole people.
-
Physical – Health- and performance-related fitness: cardiovascular endurance, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, plus speed, power, and agility
-
Mental – Growth and decision-making under pressure: a growth mindset and continued development, with focus and decision quality when it counts
-
Emotional – Self-acceptance and emotional regulation: positive self-regard and managing emotions under pressure
-
Social – Relationships, trust, and conflict resolution: trusting relationships with coaches, team, and family, and resolving conflict constructively
-
Environmental – Adaptability and demands management: managing competing demands and adapting to new settings and conditions
-
Spiritual – Purpose, values, and meaning: a sense of purpose in sport and life, with values-guided conduct
-
Financial – Financial literacy, agency, and planning: conscious resource decisions and planning for the future
When these dimensions align, athletes are more likely to reach flow — the emergent state of absorption, effortless focus, and intrinsic motivation.
How I Work
Every engagement is personalized and built on the same evidence-informed system:
-
Assessment & goal-setting — a clear read on the athlete's sport, environment, strengths, and challenges
-
A personalized development plan — mindset, habits, routines, and the specific demands of performance
-
Ongoing coaching — mental skills, emotional regulation, and flow strategies applied in real competition
-
Progress tracking — adjustments based on growth and changing competitive demands
-
Transfer beyond sport — academics, relationships, confidence, and major life transitions
Coaching is delivered online year-round, with in-person sessions available during specific months in Mérida (Mexico), California (USA), and Southeast Asia.
